A Science Fiction Adventure

The Dawn of MAN

The United States of America, the melting pot of the planet, achieves its ultimate destiny. For the first time in evolutionary history, the entire genome of the human race is manifested in one individual. A poly-ethnic child, orphaned at birth, is raised and trained in the crucible of the Galaxy's most lethal proving grounds. He is endowed with the genetic attributes of history's most militaristic adventurers; the indomitable spirit of William the Conqueror, the battlefield acumen of Shaka Zulu, the military insight of Sun-tzu, the ferocity of Genghis Khan and the combined physical prowess of every human racial group. Logan is the progeny of a thousand generations of first born parents and the first Mutation Acceleration Nemesis (MAN).

The year 2005 finds America reeling from a severe economic downturn brought on by skyrocketing energy costs, the crash of the stock market, a Middle East war and ever mounting domestic political polarization. Social institutions and the political foundations of the Union crumble as long cherished ideals and the promise of the American dream slide towards the brink of catastrophe.

Logan returns to Earth, the planet of his birth and becomes embroiled in a developing civil war that rips thru the heart of America while he battles an invasion force of the most fearsome and implacable aliens imaginable. The odds mount against Logan as he struggles to unite the world powers against the threat from space. He must also come to grips with his own personal demons while the future of Earth and the human race hangs in the balance.

Cincinnati at Ground Zero: As this fast paced and imaginative tale builds towards its pulse-pounding climax, Cincinnati becomes a battlefield in an interstellar war for domination of Earth. The alien invaders launch a multi-megaton nuclear tipped missile, targeted on the Queen City. Logan must choose between the survival of Cincinnati, the life of the woman he loves and the fate of the whole planet.

I have been an avid reader all of my life. It started with comic books, if I recall correctly, around the age of seven. I read just about all of them but the Marvel comics were my favorites. The X-Men, The Fantastic Four, Spiderman, Thor and the Hulk filled my daydreams for many years. I recall collecting returnable pop bottles in order to buy candy and comic books. Around the fifth or sixth grade I read a children's book entitled 'The Boxcar Children' and I've been hooked on novels ever since. From that point on one of my favorite places was the school library. My interests in reading material has changed considerably over the years. I subscribe to several magazines and other publications, mainly for research and background material for my writing. For pleasure reading my favorites are Science Fiction, Fiction, War, Espionage and lately, Crime novels.
I suppose I shouldn't be surprised that I would want to write my own novel. I have and its finally a reality. When I designed the cover I tried to convey some of the major concepts of the novel. As you can see the title of my first novel is The Dawn of MAN. The head is rising out of a simple matrix that represents the human genome. The backdrop of planet earth and the stars represents the stage setting of the story and the sun rising from the east is of course designed to represent the dawn of a new day and by reference a new era.

The novel examines many of the controversial issues confronting society today, the race issue chief among them as well as religion and the questions surrounding creation/evolution. I raise serious questions that I've had all of my life concerning the nature of man. In that respect the novel is, in it's purest sense, a story that puts forward a possible scenario to explain the violent nature of human beings.

I have always been fascinated with everything military. A large part of the plot involves human conflict on personal, societal, planetary and inter-planetary scales. So the book could be classified as military science fiction. Although it is jam packed with action, I would have been remiss if I'd failed to include a little romance. I for one always enjoy a love story as a sub-plot in a movie or novel. So my book has something for everyone but first and foremost it is a science fiction novel.
